Building inspector must comply with Australian Property and Building Inspection code of conduct
Each inspector employed is required to comply with each state legislative requirements that regulate or govern inspectors in the performance of building inspection functions, inspectors must:

  • Hold a current building trade qualification, or industry equivalent;
  • Be able to prove 10 years building and construction experience;
  • A working knowledge of their relevant state building code, for example in Victoria it is Building Act 1993;

If carrying out asbestos inspections, a building inspector must have a thorough knowledge of asbestos and comply with all applicable legislation relating to asbestos relevant to their particular state, for example in Victoria refer to www.asbestos.vic.gov.au
